Market Analysis

MARKET ANALYSIS

Immunology deals with the study of development, anatomy functions and malfunctions of the immune system, which are fundamental to understand the human disease. The immune system is made up of many types of molecules and cells that are distributed in every tissue of the body, as well as specialized lymphoid organs, which act in a coordinated manner to prevent microbial infections, to initiate repair of damaged tissues and to suppress the growth of tumors. The immune system normally recognizes and responds to foreign molecules or damaged self, but not healthy host cells and tissues. The innate system of immunity is on evolutionary terms, the older system that forms the first line of defence. It is non-specific and the resistance is static. This includes physical defences such as skin & epithelial surfaces, cilia, commensual flora, acidic gastric contents, fever and some others are biochemical defences such as acute phase reactants and complement, soluble - lysosyme, interferons, fibronectin. Cellular components include natural killer cells and RES phagocytes.

Scope and Importance

The immunology market for infectious diseases comprises of diagnosis and treatment of such infections based on the antibody and antigen reaction. Innovations and developments in the immunological technologies are very limited but focused on exploring the applications in other infections. The major infections where immunological products used are hepatitis, rotavirus infections, and other viral and bacterial infections. The current study of immunology and infections rotate around handful of infectious conditions namely AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, rotavirus, pneumonia, inflammatory bowel and some autoimmune diseases.

However the growth of the market may be significant in emerging economies in Asia and Africa considering high incidence and prevalence rate for infections. This market can also be segmented according to various categories of infections such as hepatitis viruses, retroviruses and other infections. Track5: IMMUNITY AND HOST DEFENCE:

Host defenses are composed of two complementary, interacting systems: (1) innate immunity, which protect against microorganisms in general; and (2) acquired immunity, which protects against particular microbes. Innate defense can be divided into three major categories: (1) physical barriers, such as intact skin and mucous membranes; (2) phagocytic cells, such as macrophages, neutrophils and killer cells; and (3) proteins, such as complement, lysozyme, and interferon. Acquired defenses are mediated by antibodies and T lymphocytes.

Track6: INNATE IMMUNITY:

A crucial property of the innate immune system is the ability to recognize viruses as ‘foreign’. Viral proteins and nucleic acids are distinguished from cellular counterparts by cellular proteins called pattern receptors (illustrated). These are proteins present either on the cellular membranes or in the cell cytoplasm, where they detect viral components.

Track7: TRANSPLANTATION:

Transplantation refers to transfer of living cells, tissues and organs from one part of the body to another from one individual to another. Transplantation mainly consists of three types: (1) organ or tissue transplantation; (2) Anatomical site of origin of transplant & site of its placement i.e., orthotropic (normal sites) ,heterotopic(abnormal sites) ; (3) Vital grafts and Structural  grafts. The roles of the different components of the immune system involved in the tolerance or rejection of grafts and in graft-versus-host disease have been clarified. These elements consists of counteract ant, ant generative cells , helper and cytotoxic T cell subsets, immune cell surface molecules, signaling mechanisms and cytokines that they release.

Track8: AUTOIMMUNITY AND INFLAMMATION:

Autoimmunity is the mode of immune response of an organism against its own cells and tissues. Any disease that results from such an aberrant immune response is termed as an autoimmune disease. Some examples include celiac disease, Type 1 Diabetes mellitus, lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, graves’ disease, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, Addison’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, polymyositis, and dermatomyositis  and inflammation is a signal mediated response to cellular insult by infectious agents, toxins, and physical stress. While acute inflammation is important to the immune response, chronic inappropriate inflammation can cause tissue autoimmunity, neurodegenerative cardiovascular diseases.

Track9: IMMUNOGENETICS:

Immunogenetics is the study of genetics and evolution of immune system. It includes the study of normal immunological pathways and the identification of genetic variations that results in immune defects, immune response, and disease susceptibility. Which produce outcome in the identification of new therapeutic targets for immune diseases.

Track10: IMMUNODEFICIENCY:

Immunodeficiency is a disorder which disrupts the body's ability to protect itself against parasites, bacteria and viruses. This disorder prevents your body from fighting diseases and this causes our body to catch the bacteria and diseases more easily. Two types of immunodeficiency disorders are congenital or acquired. A congenital is a primary disorder which you were born with and acquired is a secondary disorder that you get later in life.
